At A Perfect Smile Orthodontics, we strive to make the smile perfection process quick, painless, and fun. To best make sure that Invisalign is right for you, we ask that you schedule a private consultation with Dr. Taylor and his orthodontic professionals. At your consultation, Dr. Taylor will begin by taking a digital scan of your mouth, using the iTero® Scanner that will create a 3D replica of your teeth. With this image, he will actually be able to show you how your teeth will look after the process! We will then send these images to Invisalign to create a series of custom-made “trays” that will gently move your teeth into the desired position as you change them out.
In preparation for the trays, Dr. Taylor will attach small “bumps” to several of your teeth, designed so that the aligners have something to grip onto. These are made to exactly match the color of your teeth, so like the aligners, they are virtually invisible.
Once the aligners arrive, Dr. Taylor and his staff will explain how often you will wear each set of aligners. Usually, a week or two for each set. They will tell you how often we will need to see you in the office to check your progress. They will also give you care instructions for your aligners.
The aligners are very easy to care for, but remember they are clear plastic, so you will want to take extra care when cleaning them. You should clean your aligners every time you take them out, such as when eating and drinking or when brushing and flossing. We recommend cleaning the aligners with antibacterial soap and a soft toothbrush. It is best to have a designated soft toothbrush for the aligners, separate from the one you use to brush your teeth.
If brushing the aligners is not possible in certain settings, then they should be thoroughly rinsed with clean water. You should avoid using harsh cleaners containing strong scents or dyes, as these can cause the plastic to scratch or stain. We also recommend that the aligners be soaked once per day in denture cleaner or Invisalign Crystals. An ideal time to do that would be when you have them out while enjoying a meal.
The aligners come with special cases you will want to keep with you at all times. Because you remove the aligners every time you eat or drink anything (besides clear, non-carbonated water), you will want to store them in their case. This prevents them from being contaminated, or worse, accidentally thrown away!

Dr. David Taylor is a board-certified orthodontic specialist who personally oversees every patient’s treatment at A Perfect Smile Orthodontics. His hands-on approach ensures consistent, high-quality results and continuity of care.
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Taylor earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with distinction from the University of Western Ontario in 2005. He then completed his orthodontic residency and a Master of Science in Orthodontics at the University of Detroit Mercy in 2007. That same year, his research was selected for presentation at the American Association of Orthodontists’ Annual Session.
In 2007, he received a Fellowship in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. A year later, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics—an honor awarded to only a select group of orthodontists. Two of his board cases were chosen for the prestigious American Board of Orthodontic Case Display.

Committed to continuing education, Dr. Taylor integrates the latest technology and techniques into his practice. He also enjoys teaching and regularly lectures at dental societies and professional events throughout South Texas.
Dr. Taylor is a past president and volunteer with Dentists Who Care, a local nonprofit serving those in need. When he’s not working or teaching, he enjoys reading, fitness, spin classes, and—most of all—spending quality time with his family.
